A steeply sloping tunnel, carved through layers of black flint in the Crusader period, leads from inside the fortress to the 'Ain Al-Raghaya spring, at the base of the hill. A path of more than 300 steps reveals medieval structures and a cistern.
This tunnel was crucial for securing a vital water supply and became essential during sieges, like those by Saladin in the late 12th century.
At the end of the ancient tunnel, a junction, built in the last few decades, leads outside through a well five meters deep, located on the southern side of the hill.
